excellent sicilian pasta :: overall 7/10 :: €30 for antipasto, pasta dish and glass of wine
Although the large and brightly-lit Re di Coppe e Piatti (RIpa di Porta Ticinese 51) may dissuade you from entering, I highly suggest stopping by to try real Sicilian food in the Navigli area.
We started our meal in a great way with wonderful arancini with meat ragu and a charcuterie plate (degustazioni slow food siciliane) including delicious salami from the Nero Siciliano, Maiorchino cheese and bruschetta.
The highlight of the night was the paccheri with ragu. The tasty tomato-based sauce with pork ragu worked beautifully with the al dente paccheri pasta. It was one of the best pasta dishes I've had in recent memory. I would love to try the other pasta dishes such as the classic alla Norma and Bucatini chi Sardi made with an interesting sauce of breadcrumbs, almond, sardines, tomatoes and raisins.
We also very much enjoyed the fried fish dish (Spatula). The staff at il Siciliano were all very friendly and I would happily return next time I'm in the area. The one disappointment of the night was the Nero d'Avola which was rather disjointed for a Nero d'Avola.
Thanks to Zomato for the opportunity to try this fine restaurant.
