drinc. cocktail and conversation / by shane eaton

the perfect cocktail lounge :: 10/10 :: €10-14 for a cocktail

See you next time drinc!

See you next time drinc!

MIlano, like many cities in the world, is going through a boom for cocktails. Although we're not on the same pace as Singapore, every month it seems a new bar is opening up. In the past few months, we're seen the birth of great drinking establishments such as Morgante, Damascegliere and Barba

drinc. is easily the most exciting new opening in Milano. Conveniently located in Via Plinio, not far from Corso Buenos Aires, drinc. is a truly special bar. The first thing you will notice as you enter the bar other than its beauty is the unbelievable hospitality. Luca Marcellin and his colleague Juan make you feel at totally at ease.  Perhaps this is no surprise given Luca's wealth of experience at hotel bars around the world, including his most recent gig as manager/head mixologist at the Four Seasons Milano. The space inside drinc. is the perfect size for an intimate cocktail lounge. With only a few tables and bar stools, this place is designed to create the perfect atmosphere for chatting with friends or meeting new people up at the bar.  In fact, the full name of the bar is drinc. cocktail and conversation. The bar is gorgeously designed - Luca et al. clearly put a lot of thought into the interior design. I loved the details like the aluminum bathroom door, the wall with giant letters spelling out the bar's name, and the shaker door handle at the entrance.

When you first sit down, you are presented with a lovely scented water - a nice touch that many bars often overlook. I am very picky when it comes to cocktail menus, but even I was impressed with the cocktail list at drinc, which looks like one of those fan decks for choosing the perfect paint color for your home. Instead of colors, the book is filled with enticing cocktails such as Il Professore d'Inglese, Mezicano and Destino.

Both drinks were spectacular - on the first sip, I realized that Luca's mixology skills were up their with the greats - the drinking experience at drinc. was up their with my favorite evenings at the other great bars in the city like 1930, Morgante, Doping Club, and Segheria. The Mezicano is one of the most beautiful cocktails you will ever see. Made with mezcal, vermouth rosso, bitter, liquid sugar, cardamom bitter and soda water, the Mezicano is a complex but elegant drink. It is served in a coupe glass with a beautiful ice cube - although some my claim this is a faux pas, you can't argue against the stunning beauty of this drink.

The Professore d'Inglese (gin no 1, vermouth del professore rosso, Rose's triple sec, mandarin and orange bitter, bergamot essence, crystal cube of ice) is another interesting drink, that could work before, after or even during a meal - at drinc., they provide an aperitivo plate that is not only a pleasure to look at it, but also to eat. They brought us some delicious salami, sun dried and cherry tomatoes, and various cheeses to enjoy with our adult beverages.

Although I am taking a summer break from alcohol consumption, drinc. will be one of my first stops when I resume my life as "il bevitore più importante di Milano" (cit. Ale) in September. Congrats to Luca for the beautiful bar and amazing drinks and service.
