il paradiso del hipster :: voto 8.5/10 :: €18 per smoked salmon sandwich, birra, caffè filtrato
Dopo le recensioni positive di Debora Di Santi e Michael Love, ho deciso di provare un nuovo locale in città studi, Upcycle. Ormai tutti i nuovi locali "in" hanno almeno una bici nel locale. Dal nome non è soprendente che hanno mille bici anche qui ma non è per solo attirare hipster. Al Upcyle amano davvero le bici. La maggior parte della clientela sono dei veri ciclisti che arrivano in bici vestiti da gara. Il resto? Ovviamente sono degli hipster.
Appena entri noterai i tavoli lunghi, stile Oktoberfest. L'idea è di conoscere gente mentre bevi un caffè o una birra. Consiglio vivamente la Psycho, una double IPA deliziosa del birrificio Buttiga di Piacenza. Questa birra è fra le migliori IPA italiane che abbia bevuto.
Da Upcyle, puoi anche lavorare dato che i tavoli sono lunghi, il wifi è straveloce, e lo staff simpatico non ti mette sotto pressione per comprare la prossima bevanda. Upcycle è simile a un coffee shop moderno Americano. Non fanno il caffè specialty ma l'espresso Pascucci è ottimo e il caffè filtrato è bevibile. Un plus è che c'è anche del cibo buono. Consiglio il panino aperto con salmone affumicato. Ma se sei qui solo per studiare o lavorare, ti basterà il loro pane fresco.
Cercavo un locale così da quando sono arrivato in Italia 7 anni fa. Così potrò fare un po' di lavoro anche domenica, circondato da ciclisti (e hipster) simpatici.

After positive reviews by Debora Di Santi and Michael Love, I decided to check out Upcycle, a hipster hangout in città studi about 5 minutes from Piola metro by foot. When you first arrive, you are reminded immediately of Santeria, in south città studi: bicycles, hipsters, uphill driveway from the sidewalk to reach the locale (ok at Santeria, it's downhill). Once you enter, you will first notice the long communal oktoberfest style wooden tables: the idea is to have you mingle with others over a coffee, wine or beer. I highly recommend the Psycho beer from La Buttiga, a delicious double IPA from a small brewery in Piacenza. It's one of the best IPAs I've had in Italy.
Other than socializing, the space is perfect for working/studying, since there's free and really fast wifi, lots of space, and the friendly staff doesn't pressure you to buy another drink. It feels a bit like the leftwing american coffee shop business model. One downer is that they don't appear to do specialty coffee here although the espresso is good (Pascucci). They have an open co-working space in the back much like Santeria. Upcycle is open even on Sundays until 4pm although during brunch, it can get a bit hectic. The highlight of their brunch is the smoked salmon open-faced sandwiches. But if you are here to study or work, their fresh bread will be enough to satisfy.
All the staff was super friendly and I will back tomorrow to get some studying done. For the past 7 years I had been looking for a place like this. Thank you Via Ampere hipsters!
